Family Affairs

Hey everyone it’s Harj. Hope you’re all doing well. We realise HDCandy have not updated the blog recently, but as many of you know we have now started making youtube videos. If you don’t, please do check it out. Our youtube name is HDCandyx. So yea, we have been super busy making videos, editing and uploading (which takes for ever!) But have no fear…HDCandy is now here!!!

As requested by Cheyenne Summer Cook (a follower on facebook), this blog is about families.

In the ideal world families are perfect – hence the word ideal. There are no arguments, disputes, tears or hurt feelings. But lets face it guys, that just happens in films. Don’t get me wrong…with commitment, determination and sacrifice, everything can last for ever. But for those circumstances where it doesn’t….this is for you!

I myself happened to have gone through a rough time when it came to family matters. When I was 14, my parents split up due to some heavy domestic violence. I chose to live with my mom and as a result ended up losing contact with my dad. As much as I wanted to maintain my relationship with him, it was his way or no way.

We ended up living in a refuge hostel for 3 months. A small room where the three of us would live (my mom, my brother who was 1 and a half at that time and me). It was tough since my mom couldn’t work due to injuries and because there was no one to look after my brother. Finances were downhill for a while and things were not looking good I must admit.

During that time, there was a lot of stuff that was going through my mind. Why was I going through this? Why did this happen to my family? What’s going to happen now?  A lot of unanswered questions drove me crazy. Doubts about whether we would ever smile again haunted me every day. I missed a lot of school due to depression and it was near exam time….timing was awful!!

Nevertheless, support is the key. There were days where my mom would cry into her pillow as she watched us cram up in a little room. I knew I had to be strong ….if not for myself then for my mom. As hard as it is to stay positive in some situations, I thought about the bright side. My mom was alive, even though we were in a hostel, we had a roof over our head and most important of all, we were together. We spent nights just talking and supporting each other. She was my rock and I was hers.

Friends also encouraged me and supported me. I went out with my friends every now and again and this would take my mind off things.

The hostel offered a counselling service which I decided to try out. As silly as it sounds, but sometimes it is so much easier to talk to someone who is not involved in your life. Impartial advice helps a great deal…so if you ever need to talk but feel like you don’t want to talk to a family member or a friend, try a counsellor.

I knew in the back of my mind that I could not let this affect my future. Not only was I going to fulfil my dreams of becoming a doctor for myself, but now I was also doing it for my mom….for a better future for all of us. I got my act together and started going back to school regularly. As hard as it was to revise and study in a small room which was full of stuff, I made do with what I had. Like the saying goes…when life hands you lemons, make lemonade!….

Well that was me back in 2004. Let me update you on where I am now: We now live in a 3 bedroom house…which my mom owns! My mom went back to college and did an interior design/painting and decorating course – she is now a self employed business woman. My dad and I finally got back in touch. Although he has remarried and has another child, our relationship works. Even though it took 5 years for it to happen, I’m glad it did. As far as education is concerned, I passed my GCSE’s with flying colours, moved on to one of the best colleges in the city, did my A levels (which I also passed with flying colours) and moved up in the world! Right now, I am on vacation having completed my first year of Medicine at University.

There is always light at the end of the tunnel you guys…always! As bad as things may seem at the time, never give up and never lose hope. Be there for one another and support each other during these tough times. One day, you will look back and think about how much better your life has become. No matter how long it takes for you to reach your happily ever after…keep your head held high!

Hope this has helped/inspired/encouraged you guys. Or made you think about life in general. No matter what situation you are in, there is always someone who is going to be in a worse situation, so be happy with what you have.

Stay beautiful you guys, love you lots. Take care and be safe

Love, Peace and Awesomeness

Go and flatter yourself....!!!

Hey everyone its Harj. As promised, this blog will help everyone determine what to wear, what’s hot this season, and how to make sure your body is shown off in the right way.

Finding clothes to fit into and look decent in is hard to do (regardless of what size you are). You could be the skinniest girl alive or one with curves in all the right places and still wear clothes that don’t necessarily flatter your body. The key is to know what body type you are. Once you have determined this, finding clothes to show you off in the right way will not be a problem.

Most people are aware of 2 different body types: Apple and Pear. But did you know that there are actually 12 different types???!!!

  1. APPLE: As the name suggests, your body type is round if you are apple shaped. It usually involves a thick waist and bosom. It is not easy to dress and people assume that the key to being a sexy apple is covering up in layers….wrong! Show off your cleavage using low cut tops and avoid round necks. V neck tops are most flattering. When choosing a jacket, make sure it is fitted, so that it shows off the curve made by your assets! When wearing skirts, make sure that it is fastened at the side and are flat fronted (this will not add any extra bulk to the belly thus make you look slimmer). Apple shaped girls have been known to have beautifully sculpted calves and ankles…a small heel (wedge if you prefer) will show this off. As much as we love jeans ladies…traditional jeans will not flatter you. If you must, tailored wide legged jeans are best. Or even better – denim trousers!
  2. PEAR: Alln my lovely pear shaped ladies, you will know that the centre of your problems lie with thick thighs, saddlebags and ankles which you think look awful! You don’t have to be big to be a pear shape. Pear shaped thin girls can also be found. All it means is that your behind is bigger than any part of your body. Nevertheless ladies – you have it going on upstairs! Your bosom may not directly be big but that slim waist is gonna draw attention to it no matter what. Show off your arms girl, coz they are beautiful! Avoid side pockets on your clothes. When it comes to jackets/cardigans, adding a belt will help draw attention to your slim waist and make you look sizzling! I know you may hate your calves and ankles…so if you feel like that, boots are the best to wear. Not only will they cover up your enemies, but they are also in style.
  3. HOUR GLASS: You are definitely made for the guys, but does that mean that you are made for clothes? Hell yea! However, with big bosoms and a short waist you may often feel that you look pregnant. The key to looking sexy is to wear fitted clothes that stretch your torso. Avoid clothes too big for you and show off those lovely curves. Pencil skirts and v neck tops are the must!!! Avoid stilettos – stick to round or peep toe shoes.
  4. BRICK: From behind, you have a masculine shape – a flat behind, no waist, straight up and down legs and broad shoulders. A lot of women would assume that this means wearing masculine clothes is the answer – wrong again!  You can be a brick and still look awesome and feminine. Did you know that Kim Cattrall is a brick shape?? Who would have guessed hey! The key to finding the right clothes is to look for clothes that will give you curves. Asymmetric pleats on a skirt are great because they will lift up your behind and give you that peachy bottom. When deciding on shoe shapes, round toed are best. Choose tops with detail on the neckline – this will show off the roundness of your neck and make you look more feminine.
  5. SKITTLE: often confused with pear, for having the thin long upper body. Whilst pears have the saddle bag and the big behind, skittles start to widen at their thighs. Vertical patters on your bottoms/skirt are a great way to make your thighs look slimmer. If you are short, you want a big heel – chunky is best!
  6. VASE: Take the hourglass shape and stretch it – voila! Wide scooped necklines are the thing to go for. It will balance out your chest with the remainder of your body. Your narrowest area e.g. waist can be highlighted by a single button jacket/cardigan or a belt.
  7. CORNET: Cornet shaped girls are triangular and athletic built. A draping dress is ideal to create the curves you need in the right places. Skinny jeans will show off your assets in the right way so make them your best friend!
  8. COLUMN: This is for all your tall girls! It is hard for you girls to find clothes that are the right length for you. However, once you know what shops to hit…say bye bye short clothes! Plenty of pleating is the key. The more material on a dress, the better. Chiffon dresses will make even the tallest girls look feminine. When choosing heels, go for shorter heels, that balance you out well.
  9. LOLLIPOP: This is for you tall girls with big bosoms. You have narrow shoulders but endless legs! Most actresses are lollipops – did you know that? Plenty of material in a dress is going to make you look curvier and draw the attention to your slim waist. Bell bottom trousers balance out your bosom and make you look less top heavy. Pick slim heeled shoes to show off your slim legs.
  10. BELL: This mainly affects short women. Your lower half is a lot larger than your upper half. The trick is to make your upper body look broader. Create broad shoulders using shoulder pads. When choosing coats and jackets, go for funnel shaped ones. A lot of women have trouble when it comes to summer. People believe that they don’t have the beach body. Not a problem my lovelies….a nice thigh slimming caftan will not only cover your body to a degree that makes you feel comfortable, but it will also make you look sexy in the sun!
  11. CELLO: If you are a Cello, you are a whole load of woman! With big bosoms, broad shoulders and a backside with matching hips….you are the proof for “big is beautiful” Once again, you feel as though covering up is the thing to do but listen up my foxy ladies…there are clothes that will make you look bootilicious!!! Go for wide V neck tops that will show off your cleavage. If you have it – flaunt it girl!  Maxi dresses will make you look taller and slimmer. Boots and round toe/peep toe heels are the best for you.
GOBLET: Heavy and square on top but lean and slender at the bottom. Deep wide V necks will half the area of your chest. A skirt which is fitted at the top will stabilise your bottom half and balance you out. Rock your court shoes sister!!!

Hey lovelies, it's Dee. As Harjit already stated, there are plenty of body types and it's up to you now to find the right one for you.

My little job was to find the right clothes that can make you feel comfortable and sexy. Whether it's to go out at night, or just walk down the road to go to a shop. It's all about having the right balance in whatever outfit you choose to wear for the occasion.

This top for example can be paired with some fitted trouser, denims, or skinny jeans. That way you don't look like you have some sort of potato sack on.

If you would like to show of your bosom, pair with a pretty waistbelt. That way it shows more curves as well, such as a slimmer waist, bigger bosom and hips. Cause hips dont lie ;)

OH MY GOD! A Maxi Dress is a MUST in every girls wardrobe. They suit any body shape!

It can be worn during the day while you go shopping, or in the evening while you're out for a nice dinner.

If it's cold make sure that you wear fitted jackets. Or one that has a belt around the waist, and tighten it. That shows off your figure, because it will make sure that you get an instant hour glass figure. Nicely fitted blazers are another MUST HAVE for any girl.

HIGH HEELS! I cannot mention it enough. High heels are so sexy and look so fabulous. They work your butt in your favour, and any girl can wear them. If you wear it with a maxi dress, it makes you look slimmer and taller. I'm quite short, but I surely love my heels.
If you are not confident walking in it, buy yourself a pair and walk around the house with it. Get used to it and then you can start strutting your stuff out in public. Nothing is sexier than a confident girl/woman walking down the road.

Little tip is to buy platform heels, they are way more comforable than other ones. Also, sometimes girls find it easier to walk in wedges. So either way, try and find heels that you are comfortable wearing.

V-Necks are important as Harjit already stated. They show of your cleavage and make you look slimmer as well. Not like you need to look slimmer, but do flaunt your bosom. It also stretches your torso, which makes you look taller as well.

Cardigans are a nice way to stay warm and paired with a skinny waistbelt, it gives you a slimmer silhouette. Also if its longer, it tends to make you look taller. Especially with nice skinny jeans and high heels.

Well there you go lovely ladies, hope these tips help. Now hit the shops or raid your wardrobes and find the clothes that make you feel confident and sexy. It's time to strutt your stuff and look fabulous doing it!

Much Love, Peace and Awesomeness

Society's Puppets..!

Hey everyone its Harj! HDCandy hopes you’re all doing well, enjoying life and looking fab!

We have had a few people talk to us about fashion and how it is based on “skinny people” We ourselves have strong opinions about this (since this has affected us in some way or another), and thought that we should focus a little more on the fashion side of things. I myself used to be discriminated against due to my size but have come through it, still a big girl but fashionable and confident - that's what we want for you!

Before we get down to the fun stuff, I thought it might be a good idea to give you some facts and figures and some basic ideologies.

The media has had a huge influence on how people look at themselves and others. The constant showcase of “perfect people” in ads, commercials and music videos makes us think twice. As a result, the rate of eating disorders have increased. Check this out…

Did you know:
·        The rate of Anorexia increased from 419 (1996-1997) to 620 (2005-2006)??!!
·        In 2006, NHS hospitals (National Health Service) treated 58 children under the       age of 10 for eating disorders???
·        Children as young as 10 are refusing to not only eat, but also drink water, with the fear that it contains calories!

The media has managed to make its way to little children. The development of children’s beauty pageants have added to the pressure of being “ideal” and “perfect”.

Individuality and uniqueness is now frowned upon and those that stick to individuality are labelled rebels or misfits. Point is, the media is constantly moulding society into what they perceive as the “norm”.

Both Dee and I feel that this is not the way to go about things. Sure, if you have a slim body and love it, rock the latest trends. But this doesn’t mean that bigger girls can’t also do so. Don’t conform to anorexia, bulimia or other eating disorders…love who you are!! Don’t let size be an issue and stop you from strutting your stuff in the latest designs. Watch out for our next blog where we will be discussing body types, which clothes suit your body type, what’s hot in terms of fashion this season, how to get the latest looks for cheap and how to turn your old clothes (which may not be in fashion anymore) into something flashy, sassy and up to date by just making a few alterations......xXx

Hey guys it’s Dee. As Harjit stated, we are are not ones for conforming to anorexia and bulimia, but work to overcome this constant pressure from the media to be skinny.

That does not mean go under the knife. It’s easily done by just changing up your wardrobe a little. And that’s what we’re going to try and show you in our next blog. Affordable fashion tips for any shape and size.

I have a younger sister, who came to me and told me how people call her names, just because she’s a little bigger. This was when she was 12. Who wants to hear their sister/mother/friend struggle, just because people don’t like their figure? I'm pretty sure no one. And to hear my own little sister struggle and even talking about starting to diet, pretty much hurt me. But I spoke to her and made sure that she won’t go on some stupid diet and stuff. She’s now 14 and looks more beautiful than ever, all because she stopped being upset about her figure. So please take your time to tell whoever is close to you, that they are beautiful no matter what shape or size they are. With confidence anything can be done.

So look out for our next blog, where we will show you how to stay in style without being ashamed of your figure....xXx

By the way if you have been affected by any of the issues mentioned today, there are many charities that offer advice and help. There are also many books out there. We have linked two - the ones we thought were most appropriate and fitting. Nevertheless there are more.

There is also a "Support line" which is awesome at supplying advice and providing support for many different things. If you wish to contact them, the details are:

Come And Getcha Some Candy ...

Hey lovelies,
Here's the promised blog that we were supposed to post on sunday. We have been so busy and tired that we never got round to it. Forgive us?

So we thought we'd tell you a bit about our night out, show you a few pics and then let you know about some of the products we used (in terms of makeup). Enjoy! :)

It was our last night out at our favourite club *sniff sniff*. But totally enjoyed it though. Apart from the fact that they switched off the Air Conditioning, just so people would go and buy more drinks. We were dancing near the DJ, who was kind enough to turn the fan towards us. I bet other people were jealous. HAHA SHAME! We also got to request songs, which he then played. Whoop whoop! We really are gonna miss this club. But we will let you know if there's something else worth partying at  :)

This is us right before we started to party hard (Dee left & Harjit right)

As we already stated in the blog post before, we ordered some new makeup, which due to their amazing service came on Saturday morning :) yaaaayyyy.
We're E.L.F (eyes.lips.face) fanatics so we ordered the High Definition Powder and Shimmering Facial Whip in Lilac Petal. And OMG they were the best purchase we've made in years, including a few other products.

Little something that every girl needs. (excuse the crappy quality photo)

1. No7 Colour Calming Primer. We both used it and we can totally say that our foundation lasted the whole night. We started getting ready around 7.30pm, and our foundation lasted until we took it off the next morning at 5am .

2. E.L.F High Definition Powder. Totally recommend getting this. It makes your skin feel sooo smooth, and pretty much gives you a flawless look. It's really good for setting your foundation.

3. E.L.F Shimmering Facial Whip. We used it as a highlight on our cheek bones. And look at our photo! I think it pretty much shows that it does an amazing job.

4. E.L.F Eyelid Primer. We never had to touch up our eye shadow during the whole night. It didn't crease at all. the eyeshadow faded a little, but that was towards the end of the night. At like 4am, and no creases! :)

Dilanis makeup in order:
1. No7 Primer
2.Mac Minerlize Satinfinish SPF 15 in NC45 (applied with Elf foundation brush)
3.Some TV Makeup concealer. Sorry the name has rubbed off and I don't remember the name.
4. Elf High Definition Powder all over (applied with a small Kabuki brush)
5. Sleek face countour kit in medium.
6. Belavance Blush.
7. Collection 2000 bronzer on cheeks.
8. Elf shimmering facial whip on cheek bones.
9. Elf eyelid primer.
10. Makeup Academy (MUA) blach eyeshadow
11. Rimmel London Exaggerate Waterproof Eye Definer in Noir.
12. Collection 2000 Liquid Eyeliner in black.
13. Maybelline Great Lash Waterproof Mascara in Very Black.
14. Sephora brown lipliner.
15. H&M nude lipgloss.
16. Fake Lashes of course

Harjits makeup:
1. No7 Primer
2. No7 Instant Radiance Concealer
3. No 7 Mineral Perfection Foundation
4. Elf HD Powder
5. Elf Eyelid Primer
6. Next Eyeshadow kit for smokey eye
7. Collection 2000 jet black liquid liner
8. Rimmel London Exaggerate Waterproof Eye Definer in Noir
9. Collection 2000 Bronzer
10. Elf lip liner
11. H&M nude lipgloss
12. Elf shimmering facial whip
13. Maybelline The Falsies Mascara
14. Fake Lashes :)

So there's the list of the makeup we used. If you would like a tutorial or a review on any of the products used or the look of it, please comment on here or leave a comment on our Facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/pages/HD-CandyHigh-expectations-in-High-heels-blog-for-girls-by-girls/120091051366337

Btw there are more pictures of our night out on our facebook page. Feel free to like and comment on it.

Here's a photo of us towards the end of the night. Sweat or no sweat, makeup stayed on the whole night.

Hope you liked the little insight we gave you on our weekend. Sorry it's late, but better late than never.

We'll keep you posted on whatever else we're doing.

The Calm Before The Storm

Good Saturday morning and welcome to morning brain…the online blog game to test your fellow bloggers intelligence first thing in the morning!!! Nah not really…but I gotcha thinking right??!! Lol speaking of morning intelligence, I just tried to put the milk bottle lid on my coffee AND wondered why it wouldn’t shut lol. I would say its been a hard day but its only 10:36am so I cant even use that as an excuse. That’s right people im a medic!! Lol

So Dee’s been here since yesterday whoop whoop. Bitchfit cut my hair and it looks awesomeee!!! Moved my parting as well so that my bangs are fuller. Well you can see wah it looks like on the picture we’ll be putting up. We were anticipating the delivery of the best thing ever – High definition powder. That’s gonna come in handy tonight!!!

Speaking of tonight…we cannot wait. We sit here sipping on our tea and coffee…Dee telling me about the size of Jay-z’s…wallet! LMFAO. Oh speaking of LMFAO, our new favourite song is “shots” by LMFAO FT LIL JON. Back to tonight – all we’re waiting for is the evening to roll on by so that we can get dressed, hit the dance floor and look fab strutting our stuff. XxX

Oh my God! Funny start to the day, with Harjit trying to close her coffee shut. Smart girl that medic.

More excitement since we are going out tonight. To our favourite place in the world, but too bad that it’s closing down after tonight. All because they wanna renovate or something. We don’t even know whether it’s gonna open again as the same club.

The best part of it is getting ready and putting on our favourite makeup. Thinking about different looks.

We are gonna take plenty of photos and post it on the blog. So you can see which products we used and how we used it.

Yaaaay, our makeup came by post this morning. We were worried that it may not come in time. But since it did, we can use it tonight. Whoop whoop .
We only ordered it yesterday! Quick service aint it?

Alright, ready to get ready now. Fake lashes and plenty of hairspray should do the trick lol. Beware whoever enters our room….it will be foggy!!! Hey maybe we should invest in a foghorn?? I dunno I’ll ask dee about it lol…..oh oh ohhhh a lighthouse??? Or am I getting carried away??.....

Will keep you guys posted.

Much love, peace and awesomeness

High expectations in High heels

Hey everyone it's Harj, hope ur all doing good. Well we just thought
that we'd update you on our plans for the weekend.

Imagine this...loud music, chicks grinding to the ground... guys tryna
hit on those chicks (typical), plenty of dancing in awesome high heel shoes!!!
Yup our fellow friends, bloggers and readers, My bitchfit and I are
going to go out Saturday night and hit the dancefloor!!! Well deserved
If I say so myself since I've been working my butt off revising for
exams!!!

We love this club like omg!!! Hit it all the time and it's awesome!!
Well we have been deciding on wah to wear, how to do our hair etc. In the
end I decided on some nude shiny tights, black shorts and a black one
shoulder top. And coz I feel a little crazy imma have huge hair that's
teased to the max. Oh and I'll also stick in some sexy extensions. My
jigaboo on the other hand will bust her new clothes ...but I'm sure
she's gonna tell you about that....xXx

Hey guys, its Dee :)

Well as Harj explained, we are going out this Saturday. This is a much needed break. We totally earned this after all this uni crap, drama, and all sorts of other stress points.

We’re going to our all time favourite club. I think I started going to that one ever since I turned 18. Probably gonna be celebrating my 21st in there too.

Yes, I did buy a couple of new items that I’m gonna bust out on that night. New top, new skirt, new high heels, and new makeup. Oh my God, I think we should like do a haul about it, or maybe just post it on the blog. Yeah, why not share it with you guys, ey?

I have super short hair at the moment, so I can’t put in my extensions without the tracks showing. Probably just gonna curl it or something. But photos will certainly be added to the blog. So you can see what we’re actually talking about.

We are super excited about going out, cause the last time we did was like Harjit’s birthday, which was at the start of April.

We’ll keep you guys posted about it
